In Memoriam - JD Phipps

The Tribe of Mic-O-Say extends our thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of JD Phipps - Chieftain Little Chirping Chickadee at this time of his passing.

JD was Tapped in to the Tribe of Mic-O-Say in 1957.  From 1957 to 1962 he was elevated through the ranks and paint stations from Brave to Keeper of the Sacred Bundle.  In 1966 LCC was elevated to Sachem and in 1977 to Medicine Man.  In 1993, Little Chirping Chickadee became the first Hardway Warrior elevated to Chieftain, who had held every rank and paint station.

JD did not talk much and was soft spoken, but when he spoke people listened.  Other times he did not have to talk to communicate, as can be verified by any of the Runners who served when JD was in charge of leading Runners and Foxmen over the hill on Friday night after supper.  They might be able to explain it to you.

Most years spent on Camp Staff were at the pool.  Legend has it, that he was almost as popular with the girls on Wednesday night as he was with the Scouts.  While on Staff, JD was often seen carrying a snake around before the Wednesday night campfire, fulfilling his role where he often had the role in what was then referred to as The Devil Dance.  While stationed with the Missouri Highway Patrol, Troop H in St. Joseph, JD provided an evening program to Scouts at camp.

JD lived by his 4HR.  He was a friend and mentor to all and will be missed
